A New Project for 2012

Missives from Brooklyn has been a great little project. It started in 2010 as "What should I do with my life," and morphed into "Missives," once the original title had served something of its purpose.

In the last few months, I've struggled to integrate regular blogging into my busy schedule. In the New Year, I've decided to focus on quick, daily posts featuring a single image of life in New York.

Do check out my new blog-ject, "Just One Thing:"

I promise daily updates, so please check back frequently!

The dress is Tom Ford. I just thought this whole look was so interesting. Harsh yet alluring... I couldn't look away... A walking work of art.

Holiday Windows at Bergdorf's

Even without seeing much of the other competition, Imma have to say Bergdorf Goodman takes the cake for best Holiday windows this year. In person they are twice as stunning, AND I didn't even post pictures of the most elaborate ones. If you're in the City, GO. CHECK. IT. It's awesome!!!

Writing Day: T-1700 Words...

So, I have a 1700 word editorial due tomorrow for Pork & Mead, and I am sick.

Like, called-out-from-work-already-this-week, irreconcilable hacking-cough, can-barely-speak, Nyquil-chugging, Mucinex-popping, wonton-soup-only diet, sick. I am writing from bed today... Hopefully my friends Christmas Cactus and Green Tea with Loads of Honey will help me meet my deadline!

So far, I have not one single little word on the page (but I do have lots to write about..) So, Please:  wish me luck!

A Very Bed-Stuy Thanksgiving

This year was my second hosting Thanksgiving. With my husband's school schedule and my in-transition job status, we didn't have time to leave town for the holiday (Dan's family celebrated at his sister's house in Massachusetts and my family is of course, in Vermont).

So, Thanksgiving came to us instead. We cobbled together tables and dishes enough to accommodate nine for dinner and feasted on yams, hams, carrots and cabbage. Pearl onions, potatoes and turkey. Wine flowed and later turned to whiskey and Super-8 family films (Dan's latest artistic fascination) projected on the wall.  And a ferocious hangover on Friday morning.

Success! And so much to be Thankful for.

Friday Night at Bedford-Nostrand G Subway Stop

Perpetually bathed in urban (phosphor)florescence: behold: Nostrand end of Bedford-Nostrand cares not for hour of day, day of week, week of month, month of year, year of decade, decades or century. Could be Napoleonic drug wars or simply buying loosies at the bodega upstairs. What dramas can you tell me, Mr. Subway-Stop?

Autumn Afternoon in Central Park

I'm told the brides were fake.
This couple was one of at least five we saw on this afternoon... All a little too picture-perfect and surrounded by photographers; some wearing khakis under their dresses, which you could see as they lifted up their dresses to walk from place to place.

I'd rather believe they're real...Maybe it's that rural naivete I'm such a sucker for but hey: love is love. I still think most of them were real.

Do you think it's real?

Dear New Yorkers: Newsflash! The rowboats in Central Park, which you probably always assumed were super expensive (right? I know I did)...

They're $12/hour, and an hour's all you really need.
Also, the  Boathouse Cafe is reasonably priced for a snack before or after, which was also a surprise.

Rings of a Sunday post-brunch, morning after date to me...
Or you can go with your mom, like I did, ha.
Next time, wine!
